Questions and TPCASTT: “The Clod and the Pebble”
The first metaphor believes that love is selfless. They believe that love is put in place so that we can shower other with love and cherish them as they need to be. To take them to “heaven” when they are experiencing “hell”. The other metaphor is completely opposite; it says that love is so selfish. It only serves to hurt and give you “hell” no matter how bad you want “heaven”. The first metaphor is much more superior, the author even says the clod of clay “sung” it out while when the pebble mentions his point of view on love he “warbled.”
There are no literal meanings of “heaven” and “hell” in this poem; however, they refer to the good times in live and the bad. When one is feeling down they are going through their own hell and when on is overwhelmed with joy they are experiencing their own heaven.
